Simplify: (16x5 + 8y2) – 7x5

OpenStudy (phi):

You can combine terms that have the same variable to the same power Here you have \[ 16x^5 + 8y^2-7x^5 \] the \(x^5 \) is in two different terms. You can "add" them \[ 16x^5 -7x^5+ 8y^2 \] or \[ (16x^5 -7x^5)+ 8y^2 \] If you have 16 of something and take away 7, how many do you have?

OpenStudy (phi):

what did you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got, 9x5 - 8y2.

OpenStudy (phi):

I hope you mean 9x^5 + 8y^2 it is plus not minus on the y^2 term

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah. That's what I meant. That's what I have down on my paper. Thanks for the help.
