What is Function Form ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

something that starts with "f(x)= " ???

Parth (parthkohli):

Functions are rules designed that tell what will happen to a number. @dpaInc what about g(x) and p(x)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"Function Form" sounds like a math class term, not a math term. "A function is a relation between a set of inputs and a set of potential outputs with the property that each input is related to exactly one output." - Wikipedia.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what grade level is this question @Rubie ?

Parth (parthkohli):

The input is known as DOMAIN. The output is known as RANGE.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ehhh more accurate, Parth, would be to say that the set of input values that have a defined output is the domain, and the set of output values that have a defined input is the range.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@dpaInc Uhh.. It's grade 7

Parth (parthkohli):

Or we can say that the corresponding output according to the input(domain) is called range.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The reason I point that out, parth, is because there are other input and output words used that refer to different aspects of the inputs and outputs. For example, codomain, image, inverse image (pre-image). "The corresponding output to an input" is actually called the image.

ok.. i guess it's not to early to know what's coming up in math then... everything these guys said is correct. but i think my answer is best...:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Rubie, "Function Form" is not really a term that is used in math, it's probably just something particular to your math class, book, or teacher. So I would look at your notes or book to see what they mean by that.

ohh okai thank you guys
