what is the physical significance of momentum

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you be more specific in what you mean by "physical significance"? It is a vector quantity associated with a moving object, and in closed systems, the vector sum of all of the momenta of the objects in that system remains unchanged.

OpenStudy (ujjwal):

I guess, momentum gives you a comparative measure of inertia of motion. If momentum of a body is greater its inertia of motion will be greater.. Its like, the inertia of motion of a car moving at high speed is greater than the inertia of motion of a car moving at lower speed. So, yeah, momentum should give you a comparative measure of inertia of motion of a body.

OpenStudy (ujjwal):

For your information: Change in momentum gives you the impulse and rate of change of momentum gives the force..
