What was justice system during the Crusades like?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well when the Roman Empire took control, the emperor used his proconsular and tribunician powers to control the Senate and military. And he also had control in the religious institutions, so I guess the justice system was the emperor and however he felt that day.

The justice system was more religious during the crusades. If you didn't believe in what you're society believed, then you were branded as a heretic. If you were an enemy of the state, then you were an enemy to that society's god('s). Heretics were hung, beheaded, burned, etc. If given trial, the "heretic" wouldn't have a chance, since each of the persons' in court were biased against the "heretic". This is an example of the justice system during Medieval times/Crusades.
