“Mary of Nazareth can be known and studied through academic study (scripture, theology, history, sociology of religion, etc), but her true identity is best approached and loved through the imagination.” Discuss both the strengths and the weaknesses of this controversial statement.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I love this statement!!! It is not about "true identity;" it is about what we want to believe. Here's the deal, theists believe there is only one God; but the fact is that there are as many Gods as the number of people who ever come to know the concept of God. We build our God the way we like it to be using our imagination. So is Mary and every other character in history; especially the religious ones. I may have misunderstood this statement though.

Wow I didn't think of it that way. Thanks for your perspective!

Welcome! :)

Where did you get this quote from? I just googled it, but couldn't find anything.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I haven't even tried googling it because I'm making a whole list of perspectives on the quote but I'm surprised! My professor came up with it I guess.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I see. I'm sure others also can come up with so many other perspectives. That's why I love internet! ;)

I agree. I'm going to continue to write some down. Thanks for yours! :)
