OpenStudy (jpsmarinho):

Is this correct?

OpenStudy (jpsmarinho):

OpenStudy (jpsmarinho):

When I do this lim in a software appears -1/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\sqrt{1} = \pm 1\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And also, just look at the first equation to consider whether it will become positive or negative.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Also, this belongs in the math section, not the feedback section c:

OpenStudy (jpsmarinho):

I posted in wrong section... I don't understand what you typed -> \[\sqrt{1} = \pm 1\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the square root of 1? Well, we need a number that we can square to get 1. 1 works. Why? Because (1)*(1) = 1 -1 also works. Why? Because (-1)*(-1) = 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And this is actually true any time we take the square root of a positive number. We get two answers, although we generally only consider the positive root.

OpenStudy (jpsmarinho):

aah right. Then, if I answer -1/2 or 1/2 is correct right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The most correct answer would be both.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Second best would be to just put (-1/2), since, if we're going to ignore one of those roots, it should be the negative one by convention.

OpenStudy (jpsmarinho):

thanks!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

My pleasure =D
