add and simplify (see picture)

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

they need to have the same denominator, just multiply one fraction by -1/-1

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

for you to add or subtract

OpenStudy (matt6288):

3x/(x-3)(3-x)

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

you will notice by multiply the top and the bottom of one of the fractions by -1 doesn't actually change the fraction but manipulates it without changing its actual value x = 2(x)/2 = x*1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answers are: 1 1/x-3 1/2

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

Matt6288 I think you have it wrong x/(x-3) + 3/(3-x)*(-1/-1) = x/(x-3) - 3/(-3+x) = (x - 3)/(-3 + x) = 1

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

Just remember to add or subtract fractions you need to have the same denominator on both fractions and remember this rule and you will never have a problem |dw:1338852477589:dw|
