what is gradient?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well is simply the slope

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u say some applications of that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's the direction in which the function increase is biggest

An example would be if you had a distribution of temperature in a room. Say you're a fly at a certain point in the room, and you're trying to fly in the direction where the increase/decrease in temperature is the greatest. This situation would be determined by the gradient.
