Use Synthetic Division to divide x2 + 10x + 21 by x + 3

OpenStudy (turingtest):

synthetic division is easy to do but hard to explain in a forum like this try to understand this link would be my first advice, and let me know what you don't understand

OpenStudy (turingtest):

http://www.purplemath.com/modules/synthdiv.htm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this the answer 7x - 21

OpenStudy (turingtest):

so you just want me to walk you through it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (turingtest):

polynomial division is done by dividing a polynomial by an expression of the for \[(x-a)\]so first tell me; what is \( a\) in your case?

OpenStudy (turingtest):

expression of the form*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think i got it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x - 7

OpenStudy (turingtest):

check your work; does\[(x+3)(x-7)=x^2+10x+21\]???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (turingtest):

so then your answer is not right :(

OpenStudy (turingtest):

I can tell you that just by eyeball you are close, and you can fix it if you can spot how to make the two sides equal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x + 7

OpenStudy (turingtest):

there is only one problem: 3(-7)=-21 not 21 so maybe you can just fix that, though that doesn't explain the synthetic division part...

OpenStudy (turingtest):

right

OpenStudy (turingtest):

though as I say, I'm not sure if you used synthetic division to get your answer
