what are the black keys called on the piano??

OpenStudy (goformit100):

Those are called action keys

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

half-tones

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

i think they are just called white keys and black keys lol =)) hmm but half-tones or half-notes would be the closest i think

OpenStudy (anonymous):

From what I learned the black keys on the piano are called half-tones.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

They are considered sharp and flat notes Example: E♭

OpenStudy (anonymous):

depends on who your teacher is. On a scale the black keys are considered half notes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or accidentals :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The black keys on the piano are sharps and flats. If the note is flat then you will play the nearer key to the left. If the note is sharp, you will play the nearer key to the right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they're not called sharps and flats because an A sharp is the same as a B flat!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

They ARE called minor keys. mmoul18, you are right~ A sharp is the same as B flat just like E flat is the same as F sharp. It's just a lesson in music that that's how some people use the keys depending on what key the song is in.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the black keys on the piano are shark and flat notes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

LMAO wangkan07~ Sharks swim in the water! They don't play the piano. : )

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I played the piano and I know what the keys are called :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am a concert pianist and have been for many many years. I have never ever heard the black keys be referred to as sharks : )

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK, so I had my pianos tuned yesterday and I decided if anyone knew this answer it would be piano tuner. Here's his reply to the question: a keyboard has black keys called naturals and white keys called accidentals. Hope that helps you out!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think you got them mixed around :) black are accidentals and white naturals!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"There are sets of two black keys, and three black keys; these are called accidentals, and you’re going to use them to find other notes." References Kraemer, B. (2012).
