Simplify the following expression. 2x − 6y + 2z − 5x − 3y + 8z

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

Combine the like terms, that is terms with 'x' together, with 'y' together, and similarly for terms with 'z'.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so how do i do that every time i do i turns out wrong

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

Okay, just follow this: 2x - 6y + 2z − 5x − 3y + 8z so I am combining like terms together: (2x - 5x) + (2z + 8z) + (-6y - 3y) Okay with this^?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes so it would be -3x-3y+10z?

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

almooost there!! :) -6y -3y = y(-6-3) = -9y actually

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so its -3x-9y+10z?

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

Yes righty-right!! :))

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you :)
