Using complete sentences, explain how to graph y = 1/4 x + 8 using the slope-intercept method.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[y=mx+c\] is the slope intercept form. where c= y intercept and m is the slope. So pick random points for x and y, and then plot them

not helpful @ all!

and it's y=mx+b not c

Ok. When graphing equations in slope-intercept form, you can move up/down the y-axis based on the y-axis. If it says the y-intercept it 8, go up 8. The new origin is (0, 8). Then use the slope to graph the line. From the new origin, go up 1 and 4 to thee right and plot a point. Then, from the new origin, go down and 4 left and plot a point. Then continue the line based on the points.

The choice of c and b does not matter. It could be y=mx+g, and it would still be the same equation. As long as g is defined as a function. Now select random x and y points.|dw:1339285852323:dw| Can you graph that now? You know the y intercept. set y=0 and solve for x to get the x intercepts in any.
