Does our sun have the highest absolute magnitude of a star in our galaxy?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't think so because the galaxy is huge. In our solar system i will say yes but not in the universe.

OpenStudy (shane_b):

Nope..our Sun is just "average".

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No. It has the highest apparant magnitude because it's the closest, but it's a pretty average star. It's yellow, which isn't nearly as bright as an A or B class star.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*O, and the sun is a class-G star. Not the brightest. Sirius is brighter.

Thanks, you guys! :)
