why polarity doesn't matter in AC circuit? I mean if plug the socket in any direction the appliance is functional. How it could be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in AC the current or voltage is constantly changing its polarity...whenever u plug a socket for eg a heater ,it generates heat.In most of the appliances the AC is internally rectified into DC .In our house,we get AC in sockets coz its efficient for transmission of AC rather than DC
