Solve x+3>-5/4 I have worked it but think I did a step wrong.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What'd you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I came up with 5/4 for the x and I know that can't be

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Try subtracting 3 from (-5/4). What do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I subtracted 3 from both sides, the fraction throws me grrr

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x + 3 > -5/4 x > -5/4 - 3 Find a common denominator. x > -5/4 - 12/4 x > -17/4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok this is where i get confused when you make a whole number a fraction is it over 1 or like in this case 3/1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you understand set builder notions? it calls for me to write using that would it be {x|x+3>-5/4}?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm kinda familiar...I think that that works.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so much for the help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright. Make sure that the x is solved though.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

{x|x > -17/4}
