how did you get tathat @cwrw238

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

its a right angled triangle so by the pythagoras theorem a^2 + b^2 = 4^2 - sorry its 4^2 not 4^3 a^2 + b^2 = 16 a + b = sqrt18 - thats given

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

you can now solve for a and b and plug the values into the are formula

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

hold on - i think theres an easier way a^2 + b^2 = 16..............................(1) (a + b)^2 = 18 a^2 + b^2 + 2ab = 18....................(2) subtract (1) from (2): 2ab = 2

Sorry I have to leave for exam

OpenStudy (cwrw238):
