x+2y=5 2x-y=-15 solve with substitution method?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Solve one of your equations for either \(x\) or \(y\), and substitute that found value into the other equation, and the solve for the one variable remaining. Then substitute that found value back into one of the original equations to find the other variable.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does it matter which one i do first/:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i get y=-2x-15 what do i do next?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Substitute into the other equation: \(x+2\color{red} y=5\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, im lost idk what to do. im guessing its not the same as the addition method /:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You substitute: \(x + 2\color{red}{(-2x-15)}=5\)
