what is the domain and range of y= |3x-5| and |6x^2-4x-3| it is absolute value and i know that domain must be ALL REAL NUMBERS but what is range?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the range for |3x-5| is [0, inf) the range for |6x^2-4x-3| is also [0, inf) all the absolute value does is whatever y value that is negative gets relected over the x axis making it positive.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is y>0? for both equations?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

More like \[\Large y \ge 0\] but you have the right idea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so why x= allrealnumbers and y is greater than or less than o and also all real numbers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*or equal to

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

x is any real number since you can plug in any real number and get some number out

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

y >= 0 because the absolute value of any number is either positive or 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why isn't y also all real numbers greater than or equal to 0?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

it's not all real numbers since you won't get any negative numbers for y
