The clock in my lounge room is 10 minutes slower than the clock on my phone, which is 6 minutes slow. My tram always leaves 6 minutes early, although it is scheduled for 8:55am. It takes me 20 minutes to get to the tram stop. What time must I leave, according to my lounge room clock, in order to catch my tram?

@Ashley16

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

@shirleyx is 8:55 am right time? or according to your defective clocks?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is a math problem, not actually relevant to me :)

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

lol i know =)) im asking about the problem :))

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

it was saying "my" so i used "your" ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i actually don't know >< its from a practise exam for a selective school! i think it means the tram is supposed to come at that time.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

anyway...let's do a reverse analysis the tram leaves 6 minutes before 8:55 therefore it leaves at 8:49 am it takes you 20 minutes to get to the stop so let's subtract 20 minutes 8:29 (right time) is the time you should leave your phone is 6 minutes slow so in your phone when it's already 8:29 your phone's clock still says 8:23 am now your lounge clock is 10 minutes slower..so subtract 10 minutes..what do you get ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

subtract ten minutes from 8:23 or 8:29?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

from 8:23 because the lounge clock is 10 minutes slower than the phone...and the phone time is 8:23

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is 8:13? thanks!

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

yep 8:13 ^_^
