Given the sequence 2, 6, 18, 54, ..., what expression would give the fifteenth term?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, well, first of all, is this an additive or geometric sequece? (try to figure out the pattern)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

um...no clue

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, well, how do you get from 2 to 6, and then from 6 to 18?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

multiply by 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, so then it's geometric - which means you multiply to get from one term to the other now the expression is given by 2(3^(n-1)) where n is the number of the term youre looking for do you see how that works?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 2x3^15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, because it's n-1 so 2x3^14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, ok. thanks

anytime :)
