Help please :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

with? ;o

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

the answer is 13

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

^ that lol :3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha zz shush

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:P

OpenStudy (kainui):

So basically in an elimination you're going to just look at both equations and see what you can easily get for them to have something in common. So if you multiply both sides of the bottom equation by -2 you see that you get -2x^2+2y^2=-3. Why did I multiply that by -2? Well up in the other equation you see it has 2x^2 so now if I add both the left sides together and add the right sides of both equations together it cancels out the x^2 and just leaves you with y^2!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But there is 4 solutions? @Kainui

OpenStudy (kainui):

There are 4 solutions I suppose because when you take the square root of a number you end up with a negative and a positive answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so so square root y^2....then square root it.. then y^2 and - y^2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@nitz what would be my final answer? o.0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait i will tell

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

note: there will be 4 answers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answers are (sqrt(5/2),1) (-(sqrt(5/2)),1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(sqrt(21/2),-3) (-(sqrt(21/2)),-3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that what order they go in ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

order ill check

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first is ((-sqrt(21/2)),-3) second is ((-sqrt(5/2)),1) third is (sqrt(5/2),1) fourth is (sqrt(21/2),-3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you so much! Its correct :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

welcome

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so will you be my friend?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, of course :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so any other question ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you understand how to solve this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@nitz ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait i m checking

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am not getting so sorry..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x^2+4y=9 ............1 x^2-y^2=3/2 ..........2 squaring equation 2, 2x^2-2y^2=3 ..........3 and substracting 3 from 1,we get 4y+2y^2=6 and then factorise the above equation 2y^2+4y-6=0 2y^2+6y-2y-6=0 y=1,-3
