Select the equations that are parallel and perpendicular to y = 2x - 1 and that pass through the point (4, 1). parallel: y = 2x - 7 perpendicular: y = -1/2x + 3 parallel: y = 2x + 2 perpendicular: y = -1/2x + four and one half parallel: y = -1/2x - 7 perpendicular: y = 2x + 3 parallel: y = -2x - 7 perpendicular: y = -1/2x - 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok... parallel means same slope: slope = 2 perpendicular means negative reciprocal: slope = -1/2 you can eliminate the last two and test out the point (4, 1) into both choices...

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

so you know its going to be slope of -1/2 so now just plug in those points, because its linear only one will work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Plug what into points?

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

so take the two with the slope -1/2 and plug in x = 4 and y = 1 only one will make since

OpenStudy (anonymous):

both equations must pass through (4, 1) so you'll have to test that in both.

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

yeah the set that is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

One second let me work this out.

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

I think I read this wrong, but it should still work.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes...:)

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

yep:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yay. Thank you guys (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yw..:)

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

ok so I did read it wrong but the only thing I would add is, we know its going to be two with -1/2 as slope and 2 as slope

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

sorry dpalnc I didnt see what you said:)
