Do microtubules work only in the same cell or do they work also between cells?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is an excellent question: microtubules work inside cells, pulling chromosomes apart during mitosis and meiosis. They also act as part of the cell cytoskeleton during interphase, so they have a mechanical function beyond spindle formation and telophase. You might be wondering how cells contact eachother though. The actin filaments which also are involved in the cytoskeleton are joined to the cell surface via a number of proteins, including cadherins. These hook onto other cadherin molecules on other cells. Here's a good place to start: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadherin
