What is the slope of the line defined by the equation 8x + 2y = 5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First you have to solve for y. Once you've done that, the slope is the coefficient of the x-term.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

general equation is y=mx+c where m is d slope of the line.try to bring in this form. it will be y=(-8/2)x+(5/2). Thus comparing, the slope is (-8/2) or -4.

OpenStudy (kainui):

Or do the easy way with calculus and take the derivative with respect to x: 8+2dy/dx=0 dy/dx=-4

thanks guys!
