Solve the inequality 2(x+5) > 8x - 8 I'm a little confused with the x being on both sides, so far I have only distributed the 2 on the left side...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x+10>8x-8 Now we can add 8 to both sides; subtract 2x on both sides 18>6x Now we divide by 3 and get 3>x which also means x<3

thank you! I understand now (:

No problem :) It doesn't matter if the x is on the righ :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

IF the equation was –2(x – 3) ≥ 5 – (x + 3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would I just distribute on both sides then solve the same as the last one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait let me work it out first :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well I guess. First you would distribute. -2x+6 greater than/equal to 5-x-3. Here we would 5 & 3 together. -2x+6 greater than/equal to -x+2. And yeah you would subtract 2 on both sides and add 2x on both sides. This would lead you to 4 greater than/equal to x

thank you! (:

No prob. :)
