OpenStudy (anonymous):

is a negative number a natural number ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

natural numbers are only the positive numbers (sometimes 0 included)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so what do you call negative numbers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

integers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

o yeah ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

integer are numbers on number line. that is, -infinity,........-2,-1,0,1,2,.......+infinity

OpenStudy (anonymous):

See natural numbers are counting numbers and while counting you count 1,2 3 or -1, -2 or -3???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@mathwhiz99 0 is never included in the list of natural numbers instead it is a whole number.. NATURAL NUMBERS : {1, 2,3,4,5.............................................................} WHOLE NUMBERS : {0,1,2,3,4,5...........................................................}

OpenStudy (anonymous):

some include it. i didn't want to generalize. it really just depends on what the teacher prefers. some include 0 as natural. some dont.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, I have never heard and studied that..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i, for one, consider 0 to be a whole number too. But, we never know if the teacher's preference would be to include 0 in the natural numbers. It's really controversial.

OpenStudy (maheshmeghwal9):

{N}=1,2,3,..............inf.{sometimes including zero} {W}=0,1,2,3...........................infi. {Z or I} = -inf.................-3,-2,-1,0,+1,+2,+3..............+inf.
