What are unbalanced forces? Moreover how would you calculate it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't understand very well...unbalanced forces are the same of variable forces? Sorry for my english, i'm brazilian.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Balanced forces occurs when the net force(Resultant) is zero. Unbalanced means acceleration is not zero.

OpenStudy (shane_b):

Unbalanced forces occur when there is a difference in applied forces. Unbalanced example: You pull on a cart with a force of 10N and someone else pulls on it with a force of -5N (opposite direction), the net force is 5N so the forces are unbalanced. \[F_{net}=10N-5N=5N\] Balanced example: You pull on a cart with a force of 10N and someone else pulls on it with a force of -10N (opposite direction), the net force is 0N so the forces are balanced. \[F_{net}=10N-10N=0N\]

OpenStudy (naveenbabbar):

Unbalanced forces on a particle means that their sum is non-zero. They can produce acceleration in the direction of the resultant.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Unbalanced force mean one or more forces are acting on body to change the position of body.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If a body has a constant velocity, its position changes, even if the forces are balanced, which means resultant force is zero, or acceleration is zero.
