(2x+4)(3x+8)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do 2x*3x + 2x*8 + 4*3x + 4*8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(1st x 1st) + (1st x 2nd) + (2nd x 1st) + (2nd x 2nd)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

could you explain that a little bit better, I'd greatly appriciate it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure! When you're given something like (a + b)(c + d) ... you have to make sure that every term is "taken care of" So (a + b)(c + d) is always (a x c) + (a x d) + (b x c) + (b x d) because you're "distributing" each term. Does this help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes it does a little bit, im horrible at math no matter how much it is explained to me haha!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha - just follow that rule whenever you see something like (3x + 1)(x-2). If it helps... think about when you are given x(3x + 1) This = 3x^2 + x .... what we talked about above is basically the same thing...but you have to do it TWICE because that first "x" is two things

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would it be, 6x+16x+12x+32

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or 6x^2+32
