How do i find associative law of addition to write an equivalent expression for (x+3a)+y

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

The associative law allows us to rearrange parenthesis to regroup terms when adding or multiplying. So in this case, saying (x+3a)+y is the same as saying x+(3a+y) using the associative law of addition This is because adding in any order gives you the same result.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Ex: (1+2)+3 is the same as 1+(2+3) since (1+2)+3 --> 3+3 = 6 and 1+(2+3) --> 1+5 = 6
