IN MADAGASCAR 3 MOVIE THE PENGUINS SAY THAT IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO FLY A PLANE MADE OF GOLD IS IT TRUE???CANT WE USE HIGH POWER ENGINES TO FLY IT??

Nice question. Gold, is the most ductile and malleable metal of the earth. Therefore, when you make an airplane of gold, and mount engines on it ( if wing mounted / attached ) then it would make the aircraft's wing sag due to the engine's weight. Also when the engine is at full thrust, and the lift is maximum, the gold wings, under the pressure of lift will bend upwards, thus making it a total disaster. Now let's come to drag. When the airplane will be cruising through air, the drag generated by the surface of contact of the aircraft will again disform it. Moreover gold is heavy and expensive. HOWEVER, EVEN IF YOU HAVE PLENTY OF GOLD, SORRY.....PHYSICS WON'T LET YOU TO HAVE A SAFE FLIGHT ON IT. I hope this answers your question....And thanks for such a nice question.

Yes..... even I can too....but you see....it's not aluminum they use..its Duralumin... It consists Copper, Magnesium, Manganese along with Aluminium....

No....its impossible to light an aircraft with a lighter...unless it has been smeared with gasoline and has open fuel tanks... And regarding your career and regarding IISC just go to - http://www.iisc.ernet.in/ug/

Dear Rdx, Thanks for your question. The wings of modern aircraft have winglets which are upward bent structures as you might have seen. Well let me tell you the physics behind that. When an aircraft travels through air, the pressure on the bottom/ventral side of the wing is much more than the pressure in the upper/dorsal side of the wing ( according to Bernoulli's Principle). This is what creates lift and keeps the airplane climbing through air as a the air tries to move from the ventral side to the dorsal side due to the pressure difference. Now when you come towards the edge of the wing, the air due to the pressure difference also tries to go over the edge wing instead of perpendicularly pushing it. This leads to the formation of a vortex, which is a spirally moving airflow and thus the edge or the end of the wing does not create any lift. For commercial airplanes which are heavy and can have limited wingspan due to hangar storage limitations, aeronautical engineers observed the bird hawk and came up with the idea of a winglet which does not let the air to move over from the side or edge of the wing and thus the vortex which is formed is formed on top of the winglet. Thus the whole wing is able to genrate lift .....which is all very cool..isn't it? An idea provided by mother Nature.

in die hard 2 at the climax mcclane lights the plane and the pilots above use it as a beacon light...observe the landing of the first plane thro the fog carefully ..u would c a vortex at the tip....

Votex my friends is spirally moving airflow generally observed at the edge of the wing...It is bad because it being a spiral moving airflow exerts pressure on both the top/dorsal and bottom/ventral side of a wing. Thus making net lift zero.
