Can anyone explain me mealy and moore state machine cycles...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you mean by machine cycle? I think i can explain mealy vs moore diagrams/machines if that would help?

In a moore-type finite state machine, the output is only dependent on the present state. (see 1st attached image) In a mealy-type finite state machine, the output is dependent on the present state AND the present input (this can be the clock, a traffic light signal, a user selecting yes or no, etc). (see 2nd attached image - notice the addition of the "w" variable beneath the output column) Moore-type machines are generally easier to construct, but will generally result in more states than a mealy-type machine and can thus be less efficient.
