Solve (x + 5 < 4) ∩ (x - 3 > -6). {x | -3 < x < -1} {x | x < -3 or x > -1} {all real numbers}

OpenStudy (jackellyn):

what is the question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry it copied wrong

OpenStudy (jackellyn):

x+5<4 subtract 5 from both sides x +5 -5 < 4 -5 what is 4-5?

OpenStudy (jackellyn):

x-3>-6 add 3 to both sides x-3 +3 > -6 +3 what is -6 +3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and -3

OpenStudy (jackellyn):

so x < -1 and x >-3 which is the same as -3 < x < -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3x - y ≥ -2 I have to graph this. Is it done the same way?

OpenStudy (jackellyn):

I think you have to solve for y so subtract 3x from both sides and divide by -1, what do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y|dw:1340978243194:dw|

OpenStudy (jackellyn):

-y =>-2 - 3x y <= 2 + 3x (when you divide by a negative number in inequalities the sign changes.)

OpenStudy (jackellyn):

which is the same as y <= 3x + 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So how do i graph that?

OpenStudy (jackellyn):

Thanks!
