how can i make my thesis statement better?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm doing a reaserch paper on "How and why do an author’s experiences influence and inspire their work? Research the life of Harper Lee and how it influenced and inspired To Kill a Mockingbird. What similarities exist between Lee’s life and childhood, and that of Scout in the novel?" I am having trouble writing a thesis statement. the statement i wrote is "When authors base their work on personal experience, their work makes a connection with the reader, is often times a better story, and it is more knowledgeable." but im not to happy with the "it is more knowledgeable" part. What can i change it too and how can i make it better

Instead of more knowledgeable, how about more informative? When authors base their work on personal experience, they make a connection with the reader. This often makes for a better and more knowledgeable/informative story.

I would use "memorable." If a book makes a connection to the reader, and is a great story, it will likely remember it.

i fixed it, how about this? When authors base their work on personal experience such as Harper Lee di in “To Kill a Mockingbird”, readers make better connection with the story or it’s characters, It will sometimes keep the readers more interested in the story, and many people find it much more informative because its coming from the author and not an online source

I don't like "informative." It sounds like a news article, instead of a book. If you want to keep it like it is, here are a few changes: When authors base their work on personal experience such as Harper Lee did in “To Kill a Mockingbird," readers make a better connection with the story and its characters. It will sometimes keep the readers interested in the story, and many people find it much more informative because it is coming from the author and not an online source.
