Is this correct: "You must edit every email and letter that goes out." Or should it be, "You must edit every email and letter that go out?"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First one. it just sounds more correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I like the first one, but maybe if it had a couple of commas, it would make more sense to you. Like this... You must edit every email, and letter, that goes out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'd go with the first one, it sounds better.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Day_2010... That is not correct. This is how your example sentence should actually be written... You must clean your room, and finish your homework.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The first one of course.

@Peeps... I think the original question was from sueshell99. I did not ask for your help, but thank you. I think that is why open study has the best feature. :)

I realize who the original question is from. I corrected you because you gave incorrect information, and I didn't want sueshell99 to use your suggestion. :)

"You must edit every email and letter that goes out." Is correct, you could say "You must edit every email and letter before they go out." Why? I / you / we / they: go. Meanwhile: he / she / it: goes. UNLESS it is a negative sentence. Then always go. Ex: We don't go the speed limit. He doesn't go very fast. She won't go to bed.
