This is happening.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just started noticing it today. Says that I'm typing a reply when I'm not.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And while I'm at it I have a complaint about the equation editor and draw tools. There are often things I'd like to be able to see while drawing or typing, but there are a couple of problems that happen. First of all, it would be helpful if the posts didn't scroll themselves while you were working. It's frustrating to have the equation you want to see in view, and then when you start to type it scrolls and you can't see anymore. Second, It's nice to be able to click and drag the windows around, but they often get "stuck" to my mouse so that I can't drop them, and I can't click on anything inside of the window. The workaround I've found for the draw tool is to right click and then instead of clicking on anything in the menu, click on the picture itself. This workaround doesn't work for the equation editor though.

Solution: Don't use equation editor

hero (hero):

And what I mean by that is, instead of using equation editor, you can simply use \(\) to type your equations rather than \[\]

hero (hero):

hmm it didn't post but there's a way to post equations without using equation editior

hero (hero):

You can directly type \(\ \) rather than \[\ \]

hero (hero):

Okay, that didn't work either :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol. I am aware of this fact, yet I don't care to learn all of the Latex at the moment.

hero (hero):

There's a way to type without using equation editor. I guess I'll have to show you in the chat.

hero (hero):

For example, if I want to type the fraction \(\frac{up}{down}\) without using equation editor I can do that.

OpenStudy (farmdawgnation):

So, for ease of discussion in the future, give your complaints numbers if you're going to give us an entire list. :P Regarding the typing indicator, I'm not sure what the deal is with that. We would have to recreate the exact circumstances of what was going on to see it. I've seen it a few times in production, but never in development (as I can recall) which means it's probably related to the number of users using the server at the moment. The more often I run into issues like this the more I think we're eventually going to be adding a bug reporting tool into the site so that we can capture all the internal information going on in our code that you can't see. But that's all I have to say on that for now. :\ In regard to the equation editor and draw tools, the draw tool shouldn't be triggering a scroll. The equation editor will because it's updating the text box, and I suspect we're firing keyup events on the box to update the live preview. Those may be triggering scrolls, if so, that might be something to look into. In regard to clicking and dragging causing things to hold, I haven't seen this either. How often does it happen? What browser are you using?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Quite regularly. Chrome.

OpenStudy (farmdawgnation):

Version?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's up to date.

OpenStudy (farmdawgnation):

Right, I figured that, it is Chrome after all. But I need to know if you're running the stable version, latest beta, or canary. Which is why I'm asking for the version number. :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

20.0.1132.47 m

OpenStudy (farmdawgnation):

Ah, that's actually newer than mine. :P Lemme update and see if I can reproduce.

OpenStudy (farmdawgnation):

OpenStudy (farmdawgnation):

No dice. I can't make it happen. :(

OpenStudy (farmdawgnation):

Anyway, filed the bug on the equation editor. We'll hopefully get around to it soon, although our schedule is pretty stacked this week. heh.
