OpenStudy (precal):

How does a smartscore go down?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Certain privileged users have an option to award replies with a "worst answer" medal. You've been receiving a lot of worst answer medals, I guess. I only gave you a few of them though.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

"worst answer" also reduces your medal count so if you notice your medal count to be too low..you can blame @SmoothMath for spamming you with "black" medals

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

Both of you please stop spreading that lie.

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

Consider yourselves warned. I'm sure chris is typing a proper response, but I wanted to be direct and clear about that.

OpenStudy (chris):

There is no "worst answer" medal. The truth is that there is a ranking component [compares you to everyone else on OpenStudy] to SmartScore - so if your score goes down that just means enough people passed your "points" total to decrease the ranking component of your overall SmartScore.

OpenStudy (chris):

And trust me, I would know - you guys are getting so "smart" that my score goes down from time to time :p.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Could you warn me officially, please? I only regard official warnings.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

On another note, @chris, why do the components of my SmartScore add to 69, but I only see 44?

OpenStudy (chris):

Good question. The overall SmartScore is not a total of the individual components, but rather also an equal mix of a relative ranking and a "level" type system once you add all of the points from all of the components together. The overall score is not quite an average of the three components - but it's more like an average than an aggregate.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

lol, i was kinda liking a worst medal scenario :)

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

@logangraham , all four aspects of SmartScore are on their own independent scales relative to other users. While your point totals from each subcomponent add up to the overall SmartScore point total, the ultimate SmartScore is calculated with respect to the point totals of others; thus, the sub-scores don't add up or average to the overall score, they're just an indication of where you are relative to others on those scales.

im curious to see the "formula" for the smartscore... can it be revealed?
