Hey guys, I have a question which is bugging me. How can insects develop resistance against neonicotinoids? The mechanism? Thanks.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know very little about this topic, so I tried a Google search and this came up: "Resistance to neonicotinoids can arise either through nAChR subtypes expression, detoxification mechanisms and/or structural alterations of target-site proteins." (Source: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20737790) The bit I quoted is from the abstract of a scientific paper, so I assume it's accurate, though I couldn't begin to explain what it means.

Hey thanks @Calliope. Actually, I don't know much about this topic either. I'm undertaking a work placement program in a company which deals with pesticides. Since my course modules didn't cover pesticides I'm having to look for these pieces of information. If you have anything else which could help me, please do lemme know. Thanks again.:)

Congrats on the work placement :) I'm not sure what else I can suggest... I'm just a bachelor's student myself, and I haven't learned all that much about either insects or the way toxins work. Maybe just google for some papers on the topic (if you're currently a student, take FULL advantage of any access to scientific journals that it may give you) and skim through any that look like they could be relevant.

OpenStudy (kayne):

Thank you:) I'm actually an undergrad stud as well ..^^ Thank you for the pieces of advice @Calliope.. I'll definitely look for them.
