3.Your friend tells you they think it would be cool to have band practice on the moon. Is it possible to hear the band play on the moon? Why or why not?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sound though open space (and other compressible media) is composed of compression waves. Lack of any such media, such as the vacuum of space means the sound waves have nothing to propagate through. So there would be no sound.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

it's also virtually impossible since there's no electricity...and even if there was..why waste millions just to play on the moon..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can provided you fly a lot of dust (moon dust) to create a media and it remains suspended for at least sometime.

Trick question if you ask me. Sure, you're probably expected to answer no, because sound waves dont propagate through a vacuum. But if you're stood on the moon too, the sound waves will propagate through the floor! And even if you're on Earth, you could still hear them if they used telecommunications, which you would need ANYWAY over such a long distance. Sorry to be pedantic but I dislike badly worded questions.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes because waves cant travel from the moon to earth so people wont be complaining
