(2f2 + 5f – 9) – (6f2 + 5) = –4f2 + 5f – 14

First you want to combine all your like terms on both sides of the equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There's nothing to combine on the right, so combine your like terms on the left. What do you get for your new equation?

Hint: you would combine 2f^2 and (-6f^2). What is 2f^2+(-6f^2)?

Not sure if you're still there, but once you combine terms on the left, you should get (-4f^2)+5f-14=4f^2+5f-14. From that point, you need to add or subtract everything on the right side of the equation (and add or subtract them from the left side as well, of course) to get zero on the right side. You will have only one term remaining on the left at that point, and you should be able to easily solve for "f".
