Give an example of an undefined term and explain why it is undefined.

OpenStudy (precal):

0^0 1/0

OpenStudy (eyust707):

In geometry, a point is an undefined term. It has no dimension.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/0=undefined..we say undefined when there is no answer on such particular term..

OpenStudy (eyust707):

Or how about a line. A line has no thickness. It too is an undefined term.

OpenStudy (turingtest):

a line has a definition I'm pretty sure

OpenStudy (precal):

yes, Euclid defined it a very long time ago.

OpenStudy (eyust707):

A point has a definition too... literally

OpenStudy (turingtest):

things like \[\frac10,\frac00,\infty\cdot0, etc\]are probably what your teacher has in mind

OpenStudy (eyust707):

I guess it depends if this is for geometry or algebra.

OpenStudy (turingtest):

My response to that link: define "undefined"

OpenStudy (turingtest):

"Euclid defined line as a breadth-less length" from the wolfram link I posted so that is defined in some sense I would argue

OpenStudy (eyust707):

I think they us that phrase to teach geometry students about geometrical concepts that can't actually be perceived in reality.

OpenStudy (precal):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euclidean_geometry#Naming_of_points_and_figures He defined a line in his axioms
