OpenStudy Ambassadors 7 Online
Parth (parthkohli):

\(\mathbf{\LaTeX}\) for ambassadors!

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

is this a latex "welcme to openstudy"?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

lol i thought you were going to bit.ly again

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

lol isnt text sufficient

Parth (parthkohli):

\( \begin{array}{} \cal{\text{Hey! Good to see you on this site!}}\\ \\ {\Huge \mathtt{\color{blue}{\text{Welcome To OpenStudy!}}}} \\ \text{How are you?} \\ \\ \text{I am an ambassador here. I welcome new users, like you!} \\ \\ \cal{\text{Tips:)}} \\ \text{Follow people who have the } \color{Purple}{Purple} . \text{They are our moderators!} \\ \text{Refer to our Code Of Conduct. } \\ \text{If you want to join more groups, click 'Find More Subjects'. } \\ \textbf{Need more help? See down below and ask anything in chat. Go ahead!}\\ \\ \text{Copy these relevant links in your address bar:} \\ \text{1) openstudy.com/code-of-conduct} \Longleftarrow \text{Important} \\ \text{2) blog.openstudy.com} \end{array}\)

mathslover (mathslover):

I am an ambassador .............like you! and How are you ! cant we right : enjoy answering and asking questions here ? But what is the need of that link ! isn't first one sufficient and for ease of the user taking the links out from the latex put that links in comment so that the user just clicks on it and go ahead ! Also i think the 2nd link is not going to be full here ..hence we can avoid that and only post 1st link as it is more important ok ! wait i will come after 5 minutes

mathslover (mathslover):

\( \begin{array}{} \cal{\huge{\text{Hey! Good to see you on this site!}}}\\ \\ {\Huge \mathtt{\color{blue}{\text{Welcome To OpenStudy!}}}} \\ \large{\text{enjoy answering and asking questions here}}\\ \cal{\huge{\text{Tips:)}}} \\ \large{\text{The people who have their name in purple are moderators}}\\ \large{\text{ You have to obey their orders !}}\\ \large{\text{also people having A just before their name are ambassadors}}\\ \large{\text{If you want to join more groups, click 'Find More Subjects'. }}\\ \large{\text{have any doubt ask to us ! we are willing to help you!}}\\ \end{array}\) Also go to this link for Openstudy Code Of Conduct --> http://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct

mathslover (mathslover):

@ParthKohli will this look good , large , short , sweet ( hope for ):D ?

mathslover (mathslover):

@rebeccaskell94 suggestions will be welcomed ;;)

Parth (parthkohli):

@mathslover You have to make the whole thing within a bracket so others could copy!

Parth (parthkohli):

And the grammar mistakes :o

mathslover (mathslover):

:D wait let me check that

Parth (parthkohli):

Have any doubt? Ask us! ^^ better

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What are we doing, now?

Parth (parthkohli):

Making a common LaTeX syntax for the ambassadors.

mathslover (mathslover):

\( \begin{array}{} \cal{\huge{\text{Hey! Good to see you on this site!}}}\\ \\ {\Huge \mathtt{\color{blue}{\text{Welcome To OpenStudy!}}}} \\ \large{\text{enjoy answering and asking questions here}}\\ \cal{\huge{\text{Tips:)}}} \\ \large{\textit{The people who have their name in purple are moderators}}\\ \large{\textbf{You have to obey their orders !}}\\ \large{\textit{people having A just before their name are ambassadors}}\\ \large{\textbf{If you want to join more groups, click 'Find More Subjects'. }}\\ \large{\textit{Have any doubt ! Ask us!}}\\ \large{\textbf{Also go to this link for Openstudy Code Of Conduct --> }\\ \large{\textit{ http://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct }}\\ \end{array}\)

Parth (parthkohli):

@mathslover You can use the array to skip lines. Also, don't make it very large.

mathslover (mathslover):

math processing error it is showing what abt u ? i mean is it ok to u all ?

Parth (parthkohli):

You don't get my point. Make it small, and easy to read.

mathslover (mathslover):

ok ! wait

Parth (parthkohli):

Just keep mine lol!

mathslover (mathslover):

@ParthKohli \( \begin{array}{} \cal{\huge{\text{Hey! Good to see you on this site!}}}\\ \\ {\Huge \mathtt{\color{blue}{\text{Welcome To OpenStudy!}}}} \\ \large{\text{enjoy answering and asking questions here}}\\ \cal{\huge{\text{Tips:)}}} \\ \large{\textit{The people who have their name in purple are moderators}}\\ \large{\textbf{You have to obey their orders !}}\\ \large{\textbf{Want to join more groups ?, click 'Find More Subjects'. }}\\ \large{\textit{Have any doubt ! Ask us!}}\\ \large{\textbf{OS Code Of Conduct }\\ \large{\textit{ http://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct }}\\ \end{array}\) urs one contains some mistakes .. it is our work to modify that :D is this one ok ! please suggest where to cut

Parth (parthkohli):

@mathslover Why did you use http://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct? That won't allow you to render the LaTeX. And DON'T USE \large!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can't see your latex either and why are we doing this?

Parth (parthkohli):

This explains a new user what to do :)

Parth (parthkohli):

@mathslover And I still see the little grammatical mistakes. =/

Parth (parthkohli):

Have any doubt? Ask us! ^^ Correct one.

Parth (parthkohli):

Don't make the text large!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mathslover (mathslover):

\( \begin{array}{} \cal{\huge{\text{Hey! Good to see you on this site!}}}\\ \\ {\Huge \mathtt{\color{blue}{\text{Welcome To OpenStudy!}}}} \\ \large{\text{enjoy answering and asking questions here}}\\ \cal{\huge{\text{Tips:)}}} \\ \large{\textit{The people who have their name in purple are moderators}}\\ \large{\textbf{You have to obey their orders !}}\\ \large{\textbf{Want to join more groups ? click 'Find More Subjects'. }}\\ \large{\textit{Have any doubt ! Ask us!}}\\ \large{\textbf{OS Code Of Conduct }\\ \textit{openstudy.com/code-of-conduct}}\\ \end{array}\)

Parth (parthkohli):

Don't use http lol

mathslover (mathslover):

but large is good :) it makes the user attentive ok ! wait

Parth (parthkohli):

Hmm, you need to learn why I am not suggesting you to make the text large.

mathslover (mathslover):

\( \begin{array}{} \cal{\huge{\text{Hey! Good to see you on this site!}}}\\ \\ {\Huge \mathtt{\color{blue}{\text{Welcome To OpenStudy!}}}} \\ \text{enjoy answering and asking questions here}\\ \cal{\huge{\text{Tips:)}}} \\ \textit{The people who have their name in purple are moderators}\\ \textbf{You have to obey their orders !}\\ \textbf{Want to join more groups ? click 'Find More Subjects'. }\\ \textit{Have any doubt ! Ask us!}\\ \textbf{OS Code Of Conduct }\\ \textit{openstudy.com/code-of-conduct}\\ \end{array}\)

Parth (parthkohli):

No! That's not the point! LaTeX looks very ugly when you misuse the \Huge and \Large sizes. Plus, if your post takes the whole space, it'd be unfair. The question is supposed to be more noticeable. Grammatical errors :/ Bye, g2g

mathslover (mathslover):

\( \begin{array}{} \cal{\large{\text{Hey! Good to see you on this site!}}}\\ \\ {\huge \mathtt{\color{blue}{\text{Welcome To OpenStudy!}}}} \\ \text{enjoy answering and asking questions here}\\ \cal{\large{\text{Tips:)}}} \\ \textit{The people who have their name in purple are moderators}\\ \textbf{You have to obey their orders !}\\ \textbf{Want to join more groups ? click 'Find More Subjects'. }\\ \textit{Have any doubt ! Ask us!}\\ \textbf{OS Code Of Conduct }\\ \textit{openstudy.com/code-of-conduct}\\ \end{array}\) grammatical mistakes ?@rebeccaskell94 any suggestions

mathslover (mathslover):

\( \begin{array}{} \cal{\large{\text{Hey! Good to see you on this site!}}}\\ \\ {\huge \mathtt{\color{blue}{\text{Welcome To OpenStudy!}}}} \\ \textbf{enjoy answering and asking questions here}\\ \cal{\large{\text{Tips:)}}} \\ \textbf{The people who have their name in purple are moderators}\\ \textbf{You have to obey their orders !}\\ \textbf{Want to join more groups ? click 'Find More Subjects'. }\\ \textbf{Have any doubt ! Ask us!}\\ \textbf{OS Code Of Conduct }\\ \textbf{openstudy.com/code-of-conduct}\\ \end{array}\) this is the smallest one that i can do

mathslover (mathslover):

@karatechopper

mathslover (mathslover):

\( \begin{array}{} \cal{\large{\text{Hey! Good to see you on this site!}}}\\ \\ {\huge \mathtt{\color{blue}{\text{Welcome To OpenStudy!}}}} \\ \text{enjoy answering and asking questions here}\\ \cal{\large{\text{Tips:)}}} \\ \textbf{The people who have their name in purple are moderators}\\ \textbf{You have to obey their orders !}\\ \textbf{Want to join more groups ? click 'Find More Subjects'. }\\ \textbf{Have any doubt ! Ask us!}\\ \textbf{OS Code Of Conduct }\\ \textbf{openstudy.com/code-of-conduct}\\ \end{array}\) acc. to me this is best ! @rebeccaskell94 and @karatechopper @lgbasallote wht do u think ?

OpenStudy (karatechopper):

how do u all do those fonts?!?

mathslover (mathslover):

thanks to parth he taught me ... and also to wikipedia .org so what do u think about that what i posted ?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

all i can say about this is "lol"

OpenStudy (karatechopper):

Lol...no offense...it overwhelmes me!! and im thinking of overwhelming as a new user!!

OpenStudy (karatechopper):

but its pretty good lol

mathslover (mathslover):

@lgbasallote now u r promoted to ambassador .. try to do some thing good for os .. lol i will say this word should not be used :D

OpenStudy (karatechopper):

LOL

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

\(\LARGE \color{green}{\mathbb{L}}\) \(\huge\color{red}{\mathtt{O}}\) \(\LARGE \color{blue}{\mathcal{L}}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know this looks cool and sounds fun but I think Latex Welcoming's are unnecessary. While you guys have been debating over here I've very simply just welcomed 4 new users. We can see what @cshalvey thinks though

OpenStudy (karatechopper):

im always late!! stupid course makes me miss everyone!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

mathslover (mathslover):

yes ! i usually welcomed new users with this latex : \[\huge{\textbf{welcome to openstudy}}\] i had also welcomed 10-15 users but this one looks better :D \( \begin{array}{} \cal{\large{\text{Hey! Ask us!}\\ \textbf{OS Code Of Conduct }\\ \textbf{openstudy.com/code-of-conduct}\\ \end{array}\)

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

@rebeccaskell94 that's what i meant when i said "lol"

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

<---never welcomed anyone

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha awesome xD props LG

mathslover (mathslover):

@cshalvey sir can give us a right way !

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

i still think the welcome messages should be spontaneous and personal though..rather than scripted...idk that's just me

OpenStudy (jamesj):

Something like this is a good idea. However, I think the point about Moderators should be softened (and I say this as a Moderator). Something like: Users who appear in Purple are Moderators and help run the site. If you have a serious issue with the site or with the behavior of other users, please feel free to raise it with them.

mathslover (mathslover):

yes @lgbasallote i also though about that but this will make us easier to let the new users know aout os .. also it is ur choice whether to put personal or scripted . this looks good to me atleast as it reflects coc and mods and find other subjects hope for more reviews

mathslover (mathslover):

ok ! thanks a lot @JamesJ sir : does this looks fine now ? \( \begin{array}{} \cal{\large{\text{Hey! Good to see you on this site!}}}\\ \\ {\huge \mathtt{\color{blue}{\text{Welcome To OpenStudy!}}}} \\ \text{enjoy answering and asking questions here}\\ \cal{\large{\text{Tips:)}}} \\ \textbf{Users who appear in Purple are Moderators and help run the site. If you have a serious issue with the site or with the behavior of other users, please feel free to raise it with them. }\\ \textbf{You have to obey their orders !}\\ \textbf{Want to join more groups ? click 'Find More Subjects'. }\\ \textbf{Have any doubt ! Ask us!}\\ \textbf{OS Code Of Conduct }\\ \textbf{openstudy.com/code-of-conduct}\\ \end{array}\)

mathslover (mathslover):

but how to continue the sentence users who ...

mathslover (mathslover):

our chief :@ash2326 may suggest us more

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

a little comment..can we change "answering" to "responding"? answering might be misunderstood

OpenStudy (jamesj):

Remove the line "You have to obey their orders!" When someone is new to the site, we should be positive. Also, you still need to fix the grammar of the remaining sections: "Do have any questions? Feel free to ask us!" "Please also read our Code of Conduct: openstudy.com/code-of-conduct"

mathslover (mathslover):

\( \begin{array}{} \cal{\large{\text{Hey! Good to see you on this site!}}}\\ \\ {\huge \mathtt{\color{blue}{\text{Welcome To OpenStudy!}}}} \\ \text{enjoy responding and asking questions here}\\ \cal{\large{\text{Tips:)}}} \\ \textbf{Users who appear in Purple are Moderators and help run the site. If you have a serious issue with the site or with the behavior of other users, please feel free to raise it with them. }\\ \textbf{Want to join more groups ? click 'Find More Subjects'. }\\ \textbf{Have any doubt ! Ask us!}\\ \textbf{OS Code Of Conduct }\\ \textbf{openstudy.com/code-of-conduct}\\ \end{array}\)

OpenStudy (jamesj):

One more modification: we should clarify the difference between Ambassadors and Moderators Tips: Ambassadors (people with A next to their name) are here to help you. If you have any questions about the site, feel free to ask us! Users who appear in Purple are Moderators and help run the site. If you have a serious issue with the site or with the behavior of other users, feel free to raise it with them. Want to study a particular subject? Click 'Find More Subjects' and search for it there. Please also read our Code of Conduct (openstudy.com/code-of-conduct)

mathslover (mathslover):

\( \begin{array}{} \cal{\large{\text{Hey! Good to see you on this site!}}}\\ \\ {\huge \mathtt{\color{blue}{\text{Welcome To OpenStudy!}}}} \\ \text{enjoy answering and asking questions here}\\ \cal{\large{\text{Tips:)}}} \\ \textbf{Ambassadors (people with A next to their name) are here to help you.}\\ \textbf{If you have any questions about the site, feel free to ask us!}\\ \textbf{Users who appear in Purple are Moderators and help run the site.}\\ \textbf{If you have a serious issue with the site or with the behavior of other users}\\ \textbf{please feel free to raise it with them.}\\ \textbf{Want to study a particular subject? Click 'Find More Subjects' & search for it there. }\\ \textbf{Have any doubt ! Ask us!}\\ \textbf{Please also read our Code of Conduct (openstudy.com/code-of-conduct)}\\ \end{array}\) is this fine now sir ? i hope i had made this correct acc. to ur suggestions .. any more will be appreciated

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you guys are going to do this you should make the code of conduct an actual link they can just click. Most people are too lazy to copy and paste something like that. In all honesty, I still haven't read it. ( http://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct )

OpenStudy (jamesj):

Fix formatting by adding line breaks. Remove line "Have any doubt! Ask us" as that is ungrammatical and covered above. And yes to what rebecca just said.

mathslover (mathslover):

yes i mentioned this above to parth , he said that we need to put this in the brackets but if we put this then the latex will not be seen to us properly : \( \begin{array}{} \cal{\large{\text{Hey! Ask us!}\\ \end{array}\) Please also read our Code of Conduct : http://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct we can put this like this ... @jamesj sir i am going to format that finally @cshalvey sir please give ur suggestions too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have a feeling what JamesJ said is going to go a little further than what Parth said. I don't know what you are referring to with brackets but it's just my thoughts.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

this is optional but you can add the line : See another helpful human? Give a medal! i've seen a lot of new users wo do not know the importance of medals in this site..idk

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think something like that would be good @lgba

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

it's actually in the modal pop-up but people sometimes dont read it...idk lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol I never saw it...

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

people tend to disable the tips

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hmm, nice work guys. Thing is, I want you all to think about the situation of when a new user comes to OpenStudy for the first time - why are they here? Typically, they need help, and if they don't get that help, they never come back. So... I just worry that posting things *unrelated* to their specific question will actually take away from the OpenStudy experience. Also, if other users see that, they may not help the user as they assume they're already being helped. Being an Ambassador means being helpful, friendly, and welcoming to new users. There are a *ton* of ways to do this, so I don't really know if developing a "standard" welcome is a great way to go - it makes it far less personal. You can welcome in a question, via chat, via DM, etc. Why limit yourselves?

mathslover (mathslover):

\( \begin{array}{} \cal{\large{\text{Hey! Good to see you on this site!}}}\\ \\ {\huge \mathtt{\color{blue}{\text{Welcome To OpenStudy!}}}} \\ \text{enjoy answering and asking questions here}\\ \cal{\large{\text{Tips:)}}} \\ \textbf{Ambassadors (people with A next to their name) are here to help you.}\\ \textbf{If you have any questions about the site, feel free to ask us!}\\ \textbf{Users who appear in Purple are Moderators and help run the site.}\\ \textbf{If you have a serious issue with the site or with the behavior of other}\\ \textbf{users}\\ \textbf{please feel free to raise it with them.}\\ \textbf{Want to study a particular subject? Click 'Find More Subjects'}\\ \textbf{search for it there.}\\ \textbf{If you get a good response from a user , click on best response}\\ \end{array}\) Please also read our Code of Conduct : http://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct yes @lgba i agree with u ! so here i put that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And where do you plan on posting this?

OpenStudy (jamesj):

@cs, good point. The best would be a) something like this is posted b) followed IMMEDIATELY by "Let me help you with your first question ..." together with a good, engaged, model response.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah. I've seen them posting this on people's problems and while I love the heart behind it, I'm not even the user trying to get help, and it bugs me.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

it does look like spam sometimes...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And it's all clutter-y and stuff.

mathslover (mathslover):

hmn so i agree with ur suggestions thanks a lot @JamesJ , @rebeccaskell94 and @cshalvey sir ! What ever we did , it does not matter that what we did does not got finalized but it matters we thought about that! .. I hope that the other ambys will also suggest some good ideas regarding that all if they have : well i answered this question http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/4ff708e4e4b01c7be8c9cf66 and this also http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/4ff66135e4b01c7be8c96367 I tried to post both ones ..

mathslover (mathslover):

@JamesJ sir and @rebeccaskell94, @lgbasallote , @cshalvey sir ! sorry for disturving u again but the links i posted may i know that which one is better to introduce a new user to openstudy ?

mathslover (mathslover):

I hope that many of the users are glad with this one and many of are glad with only a simple welcome

mathslover (mathslover):

But what about the people do not get enter into any chat .. so this is the way through which we can let them know about coc

mathslover (mathslover):

@mattfeury sir any suggestions .. @karatechopper do give ur suggestions regarding this also

mathslover (mathslover):

as u r also a amby we need ur suggestions also !

OpenStudy (karatechopper):

Haha i just got here! scrolling through! ok i just have a question. So this whole latex thing, will this pop up at a new comer?? im very confused

mathslover (mathslover):

yes it will i think so ! as it is beautilfully written ( can be more ) ... we can just try doing this! if we get success then it is ok! and if not then we would have to try another things

OpenStudy (karatechopper):

Hmm...ok thats a good idea! i like how you have cleaned it a bit up..haha it kind of overwhelmed me at first with all the exclamations but it looks great now! oh and add the CoC in it! probably put that right after welcome to OpenStudy!

mathslover (mathslover):

so just right click on it , show math as - tex commands copy it ..and u can post it for a new user

mathslover (mathslover):

do tell us about the reviews also ! best of luck

OpenStudy (karatechopper):

Thanks!

OpenStudy (karatechopper):

Wait..so how do i copy and paste? i did the tex command but when i tried it never worked

Parth (parthkohli):

@cs That is why I told Mathslover to not make it large.

mathslover (mathslover):

I will message all amby's the new latex soon ! best of luck
