Complete the truth table for p or q. Place an "x" in the box for a true statement. P Q P or Q t t ? t f ? f t ? f t ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I dont know what the P or Q means.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

P and Q are just unknown logical statements (like x is an unknown number)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

So if P is true and Q is true, then is "P or Q" true?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So wouldn't they all be true then because in every one atleast one is true?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

You are correct, in every line, either P or Q (or both) is true

OpenStudy (anonymous):

except the last one.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

hmm is there a typo in the last line?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes :) My fault.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

So the table fills out to be P Q P or Q t t t t f t f t t f f f I'm assuming that the second 't' in the last row should be an 'f'

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

oh in this odd case, they want you to use 'x's instead of 't's...but you get the idea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes. :) thank you for clarifying!

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you're welcome
