______ began with nobunaga and hideyoshi and was restored by tokugawa rulers. A. preserving ancient manuscripts B. constructio nof sacred temples C. central government authority D. confucianism
C. central government authority Nobunaga Oda's goals were to unify Japan although he died in battle when he was betrayed during his march of conquest. Even though he failed, he set in motion the events that would allow one of his trusted generals, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, to pick up where he left off and finally unify Japan bringing an end to the Sengoku Period. Tokugawa Ieyasu, who was also a former ally of Nobunaga, would reap the fruits of Hideyoshi's labor and establish the Tokugawa Shogunate which would rule Japan for over two hundred years. Because of those reasons, the other choices can't be true. Confucianism originated in China, not in Japan. Nobunaga actually led a siege against Mt. Hiei to destroy temples and the warrior-monks that were there to wipe them out as a potential problem. As for preserving ancient manuscripts, Nobunaga was more concerned with unifying Japan. Although he didn't set out to the extremes and burn old records, he didn't make it one of his goals to go out of his way to preserve them, either.
