question about planes
explain the different beacon lights on a plane.why does in some planes some flash and in some planes they dont?
@Arnab_Chatterjee
well mathav i dont think that matter's even if it flashes or not these lights are to indicate that plane is there. . . other explaination is that planes at high altitude would look like having steady light. . .
Well, @mathavraj, Being a professional pilot let me tell you that there are various types of lights or beacons as you said in an airplane. They are: - 1. Navigation lights - These lights are present in the wingtips of an airplane and the rudder which blink constantly at a particular frequency. 2. Landing Lights - These are two bright lights present on the wing of the airplane or on near the nose undercarriage to illuminate the runway or the terrain for the aircraft when it is below 10,000 ft. 3. Taxing light - This light is present on the nose undercarriage which is generally illuminated along with the landing light (pre-landing) and which assists the aircraft to taxi over to the hangar or terminal after landing and vice versa. 4. Strobe Lights- These lights are present on an aircraft to prevent collision and they generally are illuminated at a particular frequency. As per your question, according to the ICAO, aircrafts above 10,000ft switch of their landing lights and their taxiing light, which makes their navigation lights prominent and thus you see them blinking. However, aircrafts below 10,000 ft. switch on all their lights which makes even the navigation lights illuminate much rapidly which makes them look like they are static and along with the bright landing lights, the whole aircraft lighting seems to be static.
