which of the quadratic functions below has exactly one x-intercept? a. y=x^2-9 b. y=x^2-6x+9 c. y=x^2-5x+6 d. y=x^2+x-6

OpenStudy (hba):

i suppose its a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats what i thought but apparently thats the wrong answer :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the one that has only 1 x-intercept is the one that can be factored into this form: \[\large y=(x-h)^2 \] in other words, the right side is a perfect square trinomial.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for example, it cannot be A because x^2-9 can be factored as (x+3)(x-3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm...okay
