I have an internet connection of a 3.1 mega bits per second and i get a max download of around 300 KBytes,.... how is Mbps converted to KBps.. (bits to bytes) and what is the maximum download speed for a 3.1mbps link?
1 Mbps = 1000 Kbps //decimal form not binary Your maximum download speeds varies accordingly to different factors If you are only getting 300 Kbps with a 3 Mbps connection, I would call my ISP. Your maximum download speed for a 3.1 Mbps connection is 3.1 Mbps or 3100 Kbps
http://web.forret.com/tools/bandwidth.asp <= band width calculator between 1 mbps = 1000 kbps as told by MathDoodler
i get max., 300 Kbyes in a bit torrent client and have a 3.1 Mbit link..... the main difference i want to highlight is bit and byte....
Transmission rates are always expressed in bps (bits per second) Download/Upload rates are always express in Bps (bytes per second) So I guess your internet connection is working just fine
yeah I have 10mbps download speed, so in reality the max I can get is 1mbps. 1mbps should equal 100kbps. It's fairly simple.
Well technically, since 1byte = 8bits, 1000Mbps = 125KB/s of maximum donwload speed, although a portion is lost due to the overhead of coding (assuming whole bandwidth is utilized). Hence you still might observe a bit more than 100KB/s at times.
