I am studying English for ACT, I need to know where exactly are commas and semicolons used?
Well, commas are used to take a break in a sentence. They are pretty easy if you actually know how to use them, but a mistake a lot of students make, is to overuse them. This site can help you :D A lot of schools use it as a standard in learning basics in English. Good luck on your ACT! http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/607/04/
what about the semicolons?
thanks got it in the link
No problem :)
@imakebots semicolons are used as substitutes for the coordinating conjunctions (for, and, nor, but, yet and so) i.e. She is making lunch; her mother is sleeping. commas are used to denote breaks between enumerations for example "i like bread, butter and jelly" note that commas are also put *before* a coordinating conjunction for example: She needs to study, or else she will fail.
