What do you think you do first?

PEMDAS

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is the answer 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6^2-2(3)^2 36-18 18

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

You exponentiate, then you multiply So 6^2 = 36 and 3^2 = 9 which means 6^2 - 2(3)^2 becomes 36 - 2(9)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you. i mustve done something wrong :(

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you multiplied the 2 and 3 first to get 6^2 - 2(3)^2 6^2 - 6^2 which is not valid

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

at least, that's my thought on what you did wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is. thank you so much for correcting me :)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
