You and your friend are on vacation at the beach and want to race each other, but in opposite directions. It is 8 a.m. when you decide to race. To have the wind at your advantage, should you be the one racing towards the ocean or towards the land? A. Ocean B. Land C. It doesn’t matter because the wind is the same. D. None of the above.

OpenStudy (shane_b):

Usually wind blows from the ocean towards land so to have the wind blow to your advantage you should run toward the land.

OpenStudy (goformit100):

A. Ocean

B. Land. The time is key here. In the morning you have the sea breeze, which blows from the ocean toward the land. The reason is that the land heats up faster in the sun than does the ocean, so the air above the land heats up and expands. This draw in the cooler air that's over the ocean, and you get the sea breeze blowing inland. (This is why it's cooler near the coast in the morning.) In the evening, you can get the opposite effect: the land cools off faster, the air gets cooler and denser, and flows out toward the sea where the air is warmer and less dense. This gives you the evening land breeze, and tells you why sailing ships would often set sail out of harbor at about sundown.

As @Carl_Pham rightly said, at the given time, the wind's direction will be from ocean to land. Hence the answer is B.
