how will you know if the given equation is Quadratic or Linear?

OpenStudy (ash2326):

@PatriciaMae any equation having the highest power of x as 2 is a quadratic on the other hand linear equations have just terms of x ( the highest power is 1) Example \[x^2+4x+6 \to \text{Quadratic}\] \[4x+6 \to \text{Linear}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

quadratic is X^2 while linear is simply x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

example x^2+4x+4=O quadratic x+4=O linear

OpenStudy (ash2326):

@PatriciaMae do you get this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, thanks :) but wait. is 3x/2-x^2=1 is Linear?

OpenStudy (ash2326):

Nope, it has the highest power of x as 2, so it's a quadratic

OpenStudy (anonymous):

quadratic

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay

great i had the same question in my mind now it's clear!!! :)
